Saint's Roost Museum Historic Footprints

Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker Photo Exhibit

Saints’ Roost Museum invites the public to visit the museum on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, for a special project entitled “Historic Footprints in Donley County.” This project includes presentations by guest speakers, as well as the current exhibit, “Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker Photo Exhibit: A Woman OF Two Worlds and A Man IN Two Worlds,” on loan from the Texas Lakes Trail Region. The project is dedicated to the preservation of Donley County history and designed to provide presentations for the public, adults, college students, and children concerning the cowboy culture of the Panhandle’s historic ranches and the different groups of Southern Plains Indians, their way of life and dependence on the buffalo, and their interactions with major historical figures in Donley County.  The presentations include “Southern Plains Indians,” by Elaina Cunningham of Panhandle Plains Historical Museum,  “Cowboy Culture on the Panhandle Plains,” by Michael Grauer of Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, and “Rope as a Tool in Developing the West” by Master Rope Maker, Greg Davis, of Tuttle, Oklahoma.  Friday presentations will begin at 9:00 A.M. and continue through the day.  Greg Davis will be on hand Saturday for the Chuck wagon Cook-off with his presentation and rope-making demonstration, and visitors may also view the photo exhibit and tour the museum.  For additional information, call 806-874-3268.

All presentations are free and open to the public.  “Historic Footprints in Donley County” was made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
