CHS Students Attend WTAMU Engineering Day
Five students recently attended WTAMU Engineering Day, learning about careers ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Civil and even Environmental Engineering. West Texas A&M professors led discussions on various topics, and students participated in construction of a project designed to demonstrate how wind energy could be used to do work. Wind energy is now a major field of study in the panhandle region, with WT professor Matt Jackson telling students that 40% of electric energy in the panhandle is now wind-generated. He broke the news that the largest wind generator in the world is planned for construction in the panhandle within the next year or so, and WT engineers will test the generator in association with Excel Energy. Cedrick McCampbell, Chesson Sims, Cooper Bilbrey, Chance Lockhart, and Riley Shadle got an in-depth look at the requirements for engineers and the options in the engineering field. One WT professor is at work developing nanomaterials that would coat biomedical devices to make them germ-free, which would be an enormous boost to hospitals in their endeavor to reduce infections.
