Clarendon CISD is preparing to welcome eligible Hedley students in grades 7-12 beginning with the 2026-27 school year under a student transfer agreement developed by the two districts.
Hedley ISD plans to continue serving students in kindergarten through sixth grade while transitioning its junior high and high school students to neighboring districts. The agreement with Clarendon CISD applies specifically to Hedley residents entering grades 7-12.
“Our goal is to make this transition as simple and welcoming as possible for students and families,” Clarendon CISD Superintendent Dr. Byron May said. “Students coming from Hedley will be full members of our school community, with the same opportunities to learn, compete, participate and belong.”
What families should know
Under the agreement:
Clarendon CISD will accept eligible Hedley residents in grades 7-12 who wish to attend Clarendon and who have not been expelled under state law.
Students will attend classes at Clarendon Junior High or Clarendon High School and will have access to Clarendon’s instructional programs.
Students may participate in academic, extracurricular and co-curricular activities under the same general standards applied to Clarendon resident students, subject to UIL rules, eligibility requirements and any tryouts that were completed before the transfer.
Clarendon CISD will be responsible for providing special education and related services to eligible students while they are enrolled in the district.
Hedley ISD and Clarendon CISD may exchange necessary student records, with parent permission and in accordance with federal privacy requirements, to help students begin receiving services without unnecessary delays.
Transportation
Hedley ISD will provide transportation to and from a designated bus stop in Clarendon on days Clarendon CISD is open for instruction.
The agreement initially identifies the Clarendon High School parking lot as the bus stop. Hedley transportation is expected to arrive by 7:30 a.m. and pick students up by 3:30 p.m., although the districts may adjust those arrangements by mutual agreement.
Families will receive additional information about bus schedules, pickup locations and daily procedures before school begins.
A place in Bronco Nation
Transferred students will have access to Clarendon CISD programs in academics, athletics, fine arts, career and technical education, dual credit and student organizations.
The districts also agreed to communicate about student attendance, grades, state assessments, course selections and participation so Hedley ISD can remain informed about the progress of its resident students.
The agreement covers students entering Clarendon CISD during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years. Students admitted under the agreement may remain at Clarendon through the completion of their education in grades 7-12, provided they continue to meet applicable enrollment and conduct requirements.
Clarendon CISD encourages Hedley families with students entering grades 7-12 to visit the district, meet campus leaders and ask questions before the first day of school.
“We want Hedley students and parents to hear this clearly,” May said. “There is a place for you at Clarendon. Our teachers, students, coaches, sponsors and community are ready to welcome you to Bronco Nation.”
