Clarendon Independent School District and Clarendon College are deepening their commitment to helping high school students earn college credits before graduation. On Tuesday, August 25, at 6 p.m., both institutions will host a Dual Credit Family Night at the Clarendon High School Library, welcoming students currently enrolled in dual credit courses and their families to learn how this partnership can accelerate their path to college success.

Through the Texas Dual Credit Program, qualifying high school students can enroll in college-level courses that count toward both their high school diploma and a college transcript. "Dual credit is one of the most valuable opportunities we offer our students," said Aimee Lyles, CCISD District Counselor. "It allows them to earn real college credits while still in high school, which saves families money and gives students a significant head start when they enter college."

Students can take dual credit courses in English, mathematics, history, government, science, and career and technical fields. Classes are offered at Clarendon High School or online through Clarendon College, providing flexibility for different student schedules and learning styles. Most credits earned through the program transfer to public universities across Texas, including major institutions like The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University.

"This is more than just saving time and money, though those are real benefits," Lyles noted. "Dual credit helps students understand what college-level work demands and whether their current academic path aligns with their future goals. Our partnership with Clarendon College makes this seamless for our students."

At the Family Night, representatives from both Clarendon High School and Clarendon College will be available to answer questions about enrollment requirements, course options, credit transfers, and what to expect in a college-level classroom. The event will also address how parents and students can work together to support success in dual credit coursework.
