Clarendon High School earns state distinction as district identifies clear priorities for growth
Clarendon High School earned a state Distinction Designation in Social Studies and received an overall accountability score of 87 in the 2026 Texas Education Agency ratings. Clarendon Elementary earned a 79, and Clarendon Junior High received a 69. The combined results from the district’s campuses produced an overall Clarendon CISD score of 79.

“These results give us a clear starting point,” Superintendent Dr. Byron May said. “There are things here worth celebrating, and there are areas where our students deserve stronger results. Our responsibility now is to build on what is working and create greater consistency across the district.”
Clarendon High School
Clarendon High School posted the district’s strongest campus results, earning an 87, or an A, along with its Social Studies distinction. Fifty-seven percent of students reached Masters on the U.S. History EOC, and the campus also posted a 100% four-year graduation rate and strong college-readiness results.
The primary concern was Academic Growth, which scored 58.
Clarendon Elementary
Clarendon Elementary earned a 79, or a C, with mathematics emerging as a clear strength. Sixty percent of students met grade level in math, and 21% reached Masters.
The campus also improved its Closing the Gaps score from 73 to 78.
Clarendon Junior High
Clarendon Junior High received a 69, or a D. Reading remained a relative strength, with 80% of students reaching Approaches and 23% reaching Masters.
The campus’s most significant concerns were student growth and mathematics. Academic Growth scored 52, while 29% of students met grade level in math.
The Year Ahead
The combined results from Clarendon CISD campuses produced an overall district score of 79, or a C. The clearest districtwide pattern was the gap between Student Achievement, which earned an 81, or a B, and Academic Growth, which scored 61, or a D.
The district enters this work after several years of significant changes in leadership, curriculum and instructional systems. The 2026 results provide a baseline as the current leadership team works to establish greater consistency across campuses.
The district’s priorities for 2026-27 include stronger instructional alignment, closer monitoring of individual student growth, targeted support in junior high mathematics and continued expansion of successful college and career opportunities.
“We have proof that Clarendon students can achieve at a very high level,” May said. “Now our job is to make that success more consistent across classrooms, subjects and campuses. That is where our work is focused.”
