Junior High Benefits from Grant

Continues to increase use of technology

Clarendon Junior High School continues to increase its implementation of technology. Teachers and students continue to reap the benefits of the EdTech Grant.

The major piece of technology used this year are the Promethean boards purchased at the beginning of this school year through the grant.

“Technology, such as Promethean boards, allow students of all levels to become actively engaged in my classroom,” said Brittany Monds, junior high science teacher.

For the most part students no longer use the old-fashion pen and paper. One exception is composition books. In some classes, these books are the student’s classroom resource book. Student’s write notes in the composition book, use them as their main resource and then take them home at the end of the year.

Every junior high student now has access to a Macbook Air. This one-to-one program allows teachers to direct students to websites for research and interactive lessons. It is common to see websites posted in the teacher’s classrooms.

“Having a macbook at school is very convenient. It helps you turn in projects faster and making it easier to communicate to the teachers about late assignments,” Zoe A. said.

Other students described Macbooks as helpful, convenient, fun, a privilege, more responsibility and another option for learning.

As we near the end of the year, the technology committee is discussing a third-year commitment with the EdTech Grant Foundation. No decision has been made. However, surveys have been sent and completed by the staff to determine the grant interest and technology needs of the district.
