Junior High GT Flys

Students have fun learning about airplanes

As the paper planes flew down the hallway outside of Mrs. Grahan’s room, students were learning about airplanes and the aeronautics industry in the junior high GT class.

The eighth graders started by researching the aeronautics industry and the available careers relating to it.

“There are so many jobs at an airplane that I didn’t know existed,” Kira W stated.

They also learned about how airplanes fly. One of the factors is a spinning vortex that is caused by a wind coming off the ends of the wing.

After the research, the students played Jeopardy with questions relating to the research they had just learned.

They also built paper airplanes and flew them.

“I learned how to build and experiment with just paper and a paperclip,” said Callie P.

As they flew the paper airplanes, the students held a contest to see who had the best design. This was accomplished by measuring the distance each airplane flew.

“My airplane won! I win!” exclaimed Sophia B.

Overall, the experience was rewarding for all concerned.

“Learning about airplanes was cool altogether. I also learned that I am not good at making paper airplanes,” Shylee M. said.
