WISE attendeesSix Clarendon Jr. High students were among the 100 girls who participated in the WISE (Women in Science Endeavors) conference held at the Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning (AACAL). The girls participated in a wide variety of workshops highlighting careers in science. Workshop topics included engineering, medicine, environmental studies, and mathematics. Students performed mock “surgery,” learned about compounds while making crackle nail polish, engineered a simple car to protect an egg, pumped “chemicals” out of aquifers, and much more. CJH students who attended were Cire Jauregui, Kendra Davis, Emilie Thompson, Abby Durham, Hannah Howard, and Trinity Stribling. The sponsor was CJH Science teacher, Kamy Whatley.
